Objectives

  • To use drawing, painting, printing, textiles and sculpture to express ideas, experiences and observations
  • To gain knowledge about the key principles of art and design; colour, contrast, composition, proportion and perspective
  • To engage, inspire and challenge all pupils regardless of ability through differentiation, adaptation or adult support; ensuring equal access to learning in art and design
  • To develop confidence, enjoyment, imagination and the skills needed to work with a variety of materials
  • To give opportunities to evaluate and review their own and others work using specialist art vocabulary
  • To develop an understanding of the work of artists, craftspeople and designers from a range of times and cultures, applying knowledge to their own work
  • To give opportunities to work independently and collaboratively

To participate in coordinated whole-school project work which will ensure that art is given high status in the curriculum

What have you learnt in Art and Design this year?

We worked with clay to make ammonite fossils.

We studied the work of Georgia O'Keefe. We mapped out what we wanted our work to look like and thought about the design. We experimented with watercolours and oil pastels and decided which was the best media to use.

I've enjoyed sketching different animals.

I liked making paper by mixing scrap paper with hot water and then squashing it together. I added leaves to the mixture too.

In Year 5 we studied continuous line drawing and worked in a style similar to Picasso.
